About Me:
Currently I am a participant in the Teaching Language Program in France for the 2012-2013 school year. I teach English to elementary students in Bouillargues, France, a small village situated next to Nîmes in the South of France as I continue my French studies. The elementary school, with grades 1st-5th, has around 350 students. Between 2010-2012, I taught fourth grade at Mazapan School in La Ceiba, Honduras. This school is an independent, coeducational school, that has less than 400 students from pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade. It has an american curriculum and students graduate with a Honduran baccalaureate and a U.S. high school diploma. In 2009, I finished a year long teaching internship in a fourth grade classroom at Woodlawn Community School in Chicago, IL. This school is a part of Chicago Public Schools and has an afrocentric curriculum as its focus.
I graduated from Michigan State University in May 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in French and History. I have wanted to be an educator since I was ten years old, after I was inspired by my fifth grade teacher who taught me the importance of becoming a life long learner. Teaching is a passion of mine and I strive to help all students succeed. I have found a deep love for urban education and I am determined to continue working with students in high-need areas. I love to travel and introduce new cultures into my classroom. I have travelled to over 24 countries and I have studied in France on three separate occasions. I enjoy meeting new people and learning about their experiences because this helps me to reflect on my own life and teaching styles. I love being outdoors and being active. I completed the Chicago Half Marathon in the fall of 2009 and I am training to complete the Paris Marathon this upcoming April. I also am an avid baker who loves trying new recipes and reinventing old ones. I am an outgoing, organized, and independent woman who loves to embark on new adventures.
It is my goal to impact the lives of elementary and middle school students of diverse social, economic, cultural, racial, and academic backgrounds. It is my hope that this portfolio will give you an idea of my dedication to children and my passion for education. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss how my skills can impact your school's mission and vision for all students.
